The cardinal rule for treating the diabetic foot lies in specific knowledge of this problem: this knowledge can be used to prevent ulcers in diabetic patients, and allows doctors to treat them appropriately.

The prevention of an ulcer must be the aim of all diabetology centres.

The treatment of an ulcer is associated with the availability of resources in Centres which want to take charge of the diabetic foot, in terms of equipment and, above all, dedicated professional staff.
